UP sugar mills spend Rs 600 crore to control pollution

Lucknow: As pollution is increasing in the country, there is a strong need to curb it. Taking steps to control the pollution, private sugar mills from Uttar Pradesh have invested Rs 600 crore in the last two years.

C B Patodia, president of Uttar Pradesh Sugar Mill Association (UPSMA) said, “We have invested up to Rs 600 crore since 2017 and have ensured that the effluent treatment plants do not discharge polluted water.”

He was speaking at a workshop organised on the topic of Sugar Industry and Environment pollution.

“We are ready to invest more if needed and ready to work in collaboration with Pollution Control Boards at Centre and State level. There is a need to spread awareness among millers about pollution,” he further added.
