Uttar Pradesh: BKU to mount pressure on government to announce sugarcane price

Lucknow: The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) has intensified its efforts to exert pressure on the state government for an announcement of the State Advisory Price (SAP) for the ongoing cane crushing season 2023-24, reported Daily Pioneer.

Despite the commencement of cane crushing in Uttar Pradesh in November, the SAP is yet to announced.

At the tehsil level in Western UP districts, the BKU is orchestrating panchayats, advocating for an increase in the sugarcane price announcement for the current season. BKU (Tikait faction) maintains that resentment prevails among the farmers over the delay in announcement of the SAP.

As per media report, in preparation for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Uttar Pradesh government is likely to order a substantial increase in the SAP for the 2023-2024 season. According to estimates from the sugar industry, the SAP may witness a rise of Rs 25 per quintal.
