Uttar Pradesh: Demand for adequate compensation to farmers for loss of sugarcane crop due to heavy rains

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress has raised the issues of sugarcane farmers. Ajay Kumar Lallu, state unit president, has urged sugarcane minister Suresh Rana to compensate the sugarcane farmers for the losses of crop due to heavy rainfall. He also asked him to ensure that sugar mills clear pending cane arrears with interest.

He sent a letter to the minister highlighting the damage of sugarcane crops due to heavy waterlogging in the state. In a letter, Lallu said, “So far no assurance with regard to the payment of compensation has been given to the affected farmers. Also, cane growers have not recevied the pending cane arrears. Therefore the government should take steps to ensure farmers get the pending dues and adequate compensation.”
