Uttar Pradesh: Farmers’ leader VM Singh demands to hike sugarcane SAP

The Central government has increased the sugarcane Fair and remunerative price (FRP) to 305 Rs per quintal for a basic recovery rate of 10.25 per cent. Farmers’ organisation are also demanding a hike in State Advisory Price (SAP) in Uttar Pradesh.

Major sugarcane-producing states such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana fix their own sugarcane price called SAP, whereas the Centre fixes FRP which is in practice in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and others.

Farmers’ leader VM Singh, who has been very active in raising sugarcane farmers’ issues, asked the Uttar Pradesh government to increase sugarcane SAP.

Sugarcane farmers in Uttar Pradesh claim that cost of crop production has increased, therefore the government should hike SAP.

Speaking to Chinimandi.com, national president of Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (RKMS) VM Singh said, “We are demanding to hike sugarcane SAP to Rs 450 per quintal. We will submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister at the Tehsil level on August 16 regarding our demand.”
