Uttar Pradesh government to revive closed sugar mills

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated two sugar plants manufacturing sulphur-free sugar at Munderwa and Pipraich sugar mills situated in Basti and Gorakhpur districts respectively on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion he said that his government had paid the cane prices which were more than the annual budgets of several states.

Yogi said, “When coronavirus had paralysed all the business activities, the government managed to run 119 sugar mills and continued operations.
The sugar mills have so far cleared cane dues of a record Rs 1.12 lakh crore to the cane farmers. Many states did not even have an annual budget of this size.”

“The production of sulphur-free sugar will give a new identity to the cane farmers of eastern Uttar Pradesh as the sugar has a huge market in hospitals and other institutions,” he further added.

Yogi said that his government would also revive other closed sugar mills in the state and directives had been issued in this regard and the work would be expedited as soon as the coronavirus outbreak gets over.
