Lucknow: UP Sugarcane Minister Suresh Rana has warned strict action against the sugar millers that are delaying in clearing cane arrears. He issued instructions in a monthly meeting convened to discuss the present situation of the sugarcane sector.

In a meeting with departmental officers, he discussed the issues related to cane payment; sugarcane crushing, sugar production and problems of cane cultivator that they are facing due to coronavirus pandemic situation.

Addressing the meeting, minister Rana issued instructions to the millers to clear cane arrears and warned strict action against those failing to clear dues.

Despite the coronavirus, sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh are operating and ensuring that no cane remains in the field. Also, mills have produced the record sugar production of 123.9 lakh tonnes, which is around 47 per cent of that total sugar production in the country.

The crushing season has got prolonged in the State as most of the Gur / Khandsari units have closed their operations prematurely due to lockdown, due to which significant portion of cane that would have gone to them, have been diverted to the sugar mills for crushing in the current season. And this has helped in more sugar production in Uttar Pradesh.
