Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane department begins expansion of sugar mills

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken steps to expand the capacity of 13 sugar mills that would benefit over 5 lakh cane farmers.

The sugarcane department is working on a war footing to expand the capacity of these sugar mills. The department has set up a committee for on-site monitoring of the expansion work of these sugar mills.

The area under cane cultivation in UP has increased by about 27.75 lakh hectares and to meet the requirement of crushing all the cane grown in the state, the government is aiming to operate 120 sugar mills during the forthcoming crushing season and improving the conditions of the existing sugar industry.

The expansion work of the sugar mills will benefit the cane farmers and will increase their income, said the officials of the Sugar Industry and Cane Development Department, reported uniindia.com.

The sugar mills in the state are slated to start operations from October 25.
