Uttarakhand: Farmers demand increase in sugarcane price

Rishikesh, Uttarakhand: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Congress party have expressed displeasure over the non-announcement of sugarcane prices. They have warned the Chief Minister that if the sugarcane prices are not declared soon, they will initiate protests. They have raised the demand to announce a rate of Rs 450 per quintal for sugarcane, reported  Live Hindustan.

On Tuesday, Congress workers sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the SDM, asserting their demand for a sugarcane price of Rs 450 per quintal. District unit head of the party, Mohit Uniyal mentioned that while the government claims to double the income of farmers, on the other hand, the state government is not announcing the support price for sugarcane.

Nagar Adhyaksh Kartar Negi stated that if the government does not announce the rate for sugarcane soon, a sit-in protest will be organized.

He emphasized that the price of sugarcane in Uttarakhand should be announced at Rs 450 per quintal.
