Vietnam: PM asks Customs department to tackle sugar smuggling

Hanoi: The Vietnam government has urged the Customs department to keep a check on the smuggling of sugar into Vietnam. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the General Department of Vietnam Customs to coordinate with the local administration and the other government agencies to tackle the sugar smuggling and fraud in sugar trade.

The smuggling of sugar is affecting the domestic sugar trade and the government is taking steps to keep control of the illegal sugar trade.
He has asked the concerned ministry to maintain and update the database related to the export, import and production of sugar done by the local sugar industry so that it would be easy to keep a check on the illegal entry of sugar into the country.

PM has also urged the sugarcane farmers to increase mechanization and use modern techniques to increase sugarcane production.
