Warning of agitation if Ajara sugar mill fails to start operation

Ajara: The cane cutters and transporters have threatened to launch an agitation from September 25 if the Ajara cooperative sugar mill fails to start operation.

Vishwas Patil, the agitating member, said, “The cane cutters and transporters are yet to receive Rs 5.50 crore from the mill administration. The administration is planning to not to take up cane crushing this year. If this happens, not only cane cutters but the cane producing farmers will face financial problems.”

The cane cutters set a deadline of September 25 for sugar mill administration and warned of agitation.

The Central government had introduced various measures, hike in the MSP of sugar, soft loan scheme, and others to help millers to overcome financial distress. But, sugar mills say that they are suffering from financial scarcity due to surplus sugar and depressed sugar prices.
