We will continue to import raw sugar from India: Malaysian refined sugar producer

Kuala Lumpur: Based on the requirement of the first quarter of 2020, MSM Malaysia Holding Bhd (MSM) purchased 130,000 tonnes of raw sugar from India. The officials stated that the shipment will arrive by January or February.

In 2019, we have imported 900,000 tonnes of raw sugar from various countries including India, said Group CEO Datuk Khairil Anuar Aziz.

“We will continue to import raw sugar from top producers including India, Brazil and Thailand,” he said.

Following Malaysia’s criticism of India over Kashmir issue, India halted the Malaysian palm oil imports, this month. And it is believed to resolve the on-going deadlock over palm oil, Malaysia has shown interest in buying sugar. However, the company has refuted the palm oils dispute as a reason to increase sugar purchase.
