Bangladesh: Sugar mill workers and farmers stage demonstration over pending arrears

Dhaka: Sugarcane farmers and mill workers in Bangladesh are staging demonstration over pending dues. They have launched a protest against the state-run Rangpur Sugar Mills for the pending arrears and salaries from the last four months. Protestors blocked the rail track at Mahimaganj railway station in Gobindaganj upazila of the district.

According to the media report, Abu Sufian, president of Rangpur sugar mills workers and employees union said, The workers and employees of different government organizations are getting a salary and bonus ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. But we have not even gotten our salaries and other benefits for four months yet.”

“The government should consider the ground situation of farmers and the mill workers. And dues of workers and sugarcane farmers should be paid before Eid on humanitarian grounds,” he further added.
