Centre allows export of additional 2,051 MT of raw sugar to USA

New Delhi: India has allowed the export of an additional 2051 metric tonnes of raw sugar to the US under the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) for the US fiscal year 2022.

The Director-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued a notification stating that with the earlier allocation of 8,424 metric tonnes (MT) of raw sugar in October 2021, the total quantity allocated for the US would now be 10,475 MT.

US fiscal year 2022 means the time frame of October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022.

The government had on May 4 announced that the sugar output in India has been estimated to be around 355 LMT (lakh metric tonnes) as against 310 LMT during the preceding year. The government expects that around 95-100 LMT of sugar is projected to be exported this season.
