Domestic sugar prices quoted stable

On a thin trading session, sugar prices in the major domestic market were reported to be stable. Prices continue to quote at lower levels as demand is reported to be weak. Furthermore, because millers have yet to begin the crushing season, old crop is being quoted, which usually attracts lower rates. The crushing campaign started in Uttar Pradesh as 58 mills started operations. Prices are expected to remain stable in the short to medium term as the crushing campaign begins.

In Kolhapur, S-grade sugar was priced between Rs 3,610 and Rs 3,640 per quintal, while M-grade sugar was priced between Rs 3,900 and Rs 3,940. According to Agrimandi, S grade sugar will trade for between Rs 3,600 and Rs 3,720 in Kolhapur markets over the next two weeks.
