Fiji: Damage to sugarcane crops may affect crushing

The sugarcane crops grown in the Labasa region have been extensively damaged due to the recent Tropical Cyclones Yasa and Ana. This may impact sugarcane harvesting in the region.

Mohammed Rafiq, president of Labasa Cane Producers Association said, “We conducted survey of the damaged crops and the results were very bad. Almost 60% of the crop have been damaged or destroyed due to the cyclones. It will likely delay the start of the crushing season.”
