Farmers threaten to stop cane harvesting if mills fail to meet their demand

Pune: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) president Raju Shetti threatened that if the mills fail to agree to our demands, then farmers will stop the crushing and harvesting of cane.

Shetti is agitating in front of the state sugar commissioner at Pune demanding FRP payment in one go instead of instalments.

He also demanded the mills pay additional Rs 350 per tonne above the FRP for this season.

“If mills fail to accept our demand then we will stop crushing and harvesting of cane,” Shetti added. He appealed farmers not to harvest the cane on November 17 and 18.
