Nano urea to help to low down input costs for sugarcane farmers

Bijnor: Farmers from the district got glimpses of how a drone is used to spray nano (liquid) urea on sugarcane crops, reports The Times of India.

As a part of the demonstration, a drone took off with a payload of 10-12 kg of nano urea and sprayed it on the sugarcane crop across eight bighas in 10 minutes.

Manually it takes 75 kg of dry urea to spray in one acre while in the case of nano urea, only 2-4 ml needs to be mixed with 1 litre of water and it takes 125 litres of water for spraying in one acre.

As per the Times of India, Yashpal Singh, district cane officer, said, “The purpose of promotion of nano urea is to protect the environment as well as to control the subsidy being given on urea. The cost of a 45 kg bag of powdered urea is Rs 4,000 but the farmers get it at Rs 266 per bag. Using nano urea will reduce urea consumption by around 50%.”

The pilot project has been launched jointly by Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative (IFFCO) and the cane department.
