Nepal: Farmers threaten to launch agitation for pending cane dues

Kathmandu: Sugarcane farmers have threatened to launch an agitation for their pending cane dues.

According to the local media report, as many as six farmers’ associations have issued a joint statement warning the government to launch a stern protest if the sugar mills fail to clear their pending cane dues. They have condemned the government’s behaviour towards the farmers and failure to ensure clearing cane dues.

The farmers want the government to implement the five-point agreement signed by the Sugarcane Farmers Struggle Committee and the Ministry of industry on January 3, 2020.

Despite several agitations launched by the farmers, the mills are yet to clear their pending cane dues.
