Pakistan: Lahore High Court seeks report on rising sugar prices

Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has asked the federal and the provincial governments to submit their say over the hike in sugar prices in Pakistan’s Punjab region. According to the media report, Justice Sajid Mahmood Sethi of the high court directed the governments to submit comments by September 18.

In a petition, advocate Azhar Siddiq stated that the high prices of sugar have affected the common man depriving him of basic necessities of life. He requested the court to look into the reason behind the hike in prices.

The Pakistan government has floated a new international tender to purchase 100,000 tonnes of white sugar to meet the sugar shortage in the country.
