Return filing defaults: Over 1,63,000 GST registrations cancelled in two months

New Delhi: Over 1,63,042 GST registrations have been cancelled by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) authorities in the last two months for defaulting on filing monthly tax returns for more than six months.

Following the sharp decline in tax receipts, the department decided to initiate strict action against defaulters. Central GST officials and Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) have been on a compliance enforcement drive since November focusing on frauds involving fake invoices.
