Sangli: Sugar millers from Sangli district of Maharashtra have decided to pay sugarcane Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) in three installments. The farmers will get the first instalment of Rs 2400 immediately after sending cane for crushing. The next installment of Rs 200 will be paid in June and last installment of Rs 200 in Diwali. The millers have taken the precaution to avoid objections from farmers and are taking undertaking signed by farmers stating that they are accepting this three installments formula.
However, some sections of farmers are not happy as the past records suggest that they have to fight for the remaining installments from the sugar mills.
According to the reports, yet farmers organisation have not raised their voice regarding this. Arun Lad, chairman of Kranti cooperative sugar mill said, “Considering the present grim situation, it would be appropriate for millers to pay bills in three installments. The farmers should not worry as we will pay full FRP as per rule.”
