Solapur region produces 153.7 lakh quintals of sugar

Solapur: Sugarcane crushing season commences smoothly in Maharashtra. According to figures from the Sugar Commissioner’s office, Solapur region leads in sugar production in the state for the 2023-24 season. In the state, the Solapur region leads with the highest number of operational sugar mills, totaling 50. As of February 14, 2024, 170.2 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane have been crushed, yielding 153.7 lakh quintals (15.37 lakh metric tonnes) of sugar.

By February 14, 2024, a total of 207 sugar mills in Maharashtra participated in crushing, with 4 mills ceasing operations. Among them, 103 cooperative and 104 private sugar mills are included, having already crushed 799.67 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane. Approximately 787.12 lakh quintals (approximately 78.71 lakh metric tonnes) of sugar have been produced in the state so far. The current average sugar recovery in the state stands at 9.84 percent.

In terms of sugar recovery, Kolhapur region leads with 11.19 percent, followed by Pune region at 10.12 percent.
