Sao Paulo, Brazi: Sugar production in the Centre-South region of Brazil in early July has been reported 8.9% up to 3.24 million metric tonnes compared to the corresponding period last year, states the data from Industry group UNICA, reports Reuters.

UNICA’s report states that the sugarcane crushed during the period is up by 4.2% to 48.37 million tonnes as against last year. Ethanol production has increased by 1.4% to 2.26 billion litres.

UNICA states that the Millers are allocating more cane to sugar production (50.01%) to encash rising prices of the sweetener as against ethanol (49.9%) in early July.

An increase in the agricultural yield has helped in increasing production this year, states UNICA.
