Water reservoir levels drop by 16.1% year-on-year

As per the latest Central Water Commission (CWC) reservoir report dated 28th March 2024, the total water available in the reservoirs across the country is 64.606 BCM, which is 36% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. However, last year the total water storage available in these reservoirs for the corresponding period was 76.991 BCM, which means that the water available currently is 16.1% lower than that of last year.

In the northern region, the total water storage available in the reservoirs is 6.290 BCM which is 32% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 38%, which is less than the corresponding period of last year.

In the eastern region, the total water storage available in the reservoirs is
9.702 BCM which is 47.49% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs.
The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 42%. Thus, storage during the current year is better than in the corresponding period.

In the Western region, the total live storage available in the reservoirs is 15.705 BCM which is 42 % of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 50%, thus the storage during the current year is less than the storage of last year.

In the central region, the total water available in reservoirs is 21.438 BCM which is 44% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 47%, thus, storage during the current year is less than the storage of last year.

In the southern regions, the total water available in the reservoirs is 11.471 BCM
which is 22% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage
during the corresponding period of last year was 36%, thus, storage during the current year is less than the storage of the corresponding period of last year.
