Cooperative sugar mills in Punjab to commence crushing season after November 10

Chandigarh: Like Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, sugar mills in Punjab are too gearing to commence the sugarcane crushing season. State Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that cooperative sugar mills have been instructed to ensure timely crushing of sugarcane. As per the availability of labour workforce for harvesting sugarcane, cooperative mills would begin the news season after November 10.

Randhawa directed the mills to complete the trials of the plant and machinery by November 1 and be prepared for starting the crushing process by November 10.

Earlier, there was demand from the sugarcane farmers to increase State advised price (SAP) of sugarcane for new season, but it will remain unchanged. Farmers have expressed displeasure over this.
