Government Announcement
In a notification issued on 11th day of April 2023, the food ministry has allocated an additional 2 LMT monthly sugar quota for April 2023. Earlier this month, the Centre had allocated 22 LMT to 525 sugar mills across the country.
Domestic Market
Following the announcement of an additional quota of 2 LMT for April 2023, there has been a slowdown in demand with prices remaining stable and traders adopting a “wait and watch” approach. Market experts suggest that this could be due to various factors, including an increase in supply or even a reduction in demand from buyers who are waiting for prices to fall further. However, the market may see some activity in the upcoming week with an uptick in demand as summer heat intensifies.
