Nepal: Parliamentarians urge government to be vigilant against sugar price hike, black marketing

Kathmandu (Nepal): Nepalese parliamentarians have urged the government to be vigilant against exorbitant inflation and black marketing of sugar as the major festivals of Dashain and Tihar approach, reported My Republica.

During a meeting of the Public Account Committee within the House of Representatives on Wednesday, the majority of lawmakers expressed concerns that an artificial shortage of sugar could be created during the upcoming festivals. They urged the government to be prepared for this possibility.

Gokul Prasad Banskota stressed the importance of ensuring that the public has access to essential goods at affordable prices. He argued that the scarcity of sugar in the market, particularly during festive seasons, may be linked to certain individuals receiving preferential treatment and support from the government.

Similarly, Rajendra Prasad Lingden called on the government to promptly address the difficulties faced by consumers who are dealing with black market activities and rising prices.
