Sugarcane administration ask sugar mills to clear cane arrears

Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh’s sugarcane department has asked the sugar mills to clear the pending cane arrears on a priority basis. They also issued a strict warning to sugar mills. According to the news report published in The Times of India, Sanjay R Bhoosreddy, principal secretary, sugar industry and cane development, said, “Sugar mills have also been asked to complete seasonal repair and maintenance work, so that the forthcoming crushing season could begin on time.”

Earlier, reacting to the criticism of the opposition over the delay in cane payment, the state government has claimed to have paid Rs 6000 crore arrears during the 45-day lockdown period.

Sugarcane farmers claim that they are suffering from the financial crisis as sugar mills fail to clear the cane dues. Whereas, mills assert that due to low sugar sales they don’t have enough finance to clear the arrears.
