Trading Corporation of Bangladesh increases sugar prices

Dhaka: The state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has announced an increase in the price of sugar for family card holders, effective from yesterday. The new price has been set at Tk 70 per kilogram, marking a rise of 16 percent or Tk 10 from the previous price, reports The Daily Star.

This price adjustment comes shortly after the government granted permission to private refiners to increase the retail prices of sugar by 15 percent or Tk 16 per kilogram.

According to a press release issued by the TCB, the state agency will provide three essential commodities – sugar, lentils, and bottled soybean oil – to one crore family card holders for the month of May. However, the prices of lentils and soybean oil will remain unchanged.

Under the new arrangement, each family card holder will be eligible to purchase a maximum of one kilogram of sugar at Tk 70, two kilograms of lentils at Tk 70 per kilogram, and two liters of soybean oil at Tk 110 per liter.
